Ben Malbasa ‘96 returned to US to teach English and serve as the Head Football Coach in 2015. Since returning to US, Coach Malbasa has been fortunate to lead a dynamic coaching staff and committed group of young men who have grown the program from 35 to 55 players, and whose efforts have earned consecutive OHSAA Playoff berths in 2016 and 2017; in 2016 the team recorded its first playoff victory since 2003. US has also earned Team Academic All-Ohio honors for each of the past three seasons.
Prior to returning to US, Coach Malbasa served as the Head Football Coach of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, Benedictine, and Elyria Catholic High Schools where his teams earned four OHSAA Playoff appearances. During his eleven years as a Head Football Coach, Malbasa has coached nine players garnering First-Team All-Ohio honors, three District Players of the Year, and two NFL players.
Malbasa received his bachelor’s degree in English from John Carroll University, his Master’s degree in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College (Annapolis), and his Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University.
He and his wife, Christi, have four children: Madie, Thomas (‘26), Andrew (‘26), and Lauren.
